Ke$ha goes for simplicity, say what?!

Pictured above, Ke$ha goes for a more natural look in a recent photo shoot. The perfect example of how less is more.

Always Stylish, Always Current

I can vividly remember as a young child being preached at by teachers, family members, and elders to fill my spare time with reading. I was told it would improve my vocabulary, IQ, and overall knowledge.  But even through high school I never could really get into reading classics or other popular books; rather I filled my time with reading fashion magazines.
Often times, people look down upon fashion as a career choice, and even as an interest. They put all of us “fashionistas” into one group: the stereotypical butter-face, bimbo who probably suffers from a shopping addiction. But let me tell you, it takes great skill to be able to write about and depict fashion properly. For the average person to thoroughly understand the importance of the latest Jimmy Cho shoe or how to effectively upkeep your appearance, and how these subjects affect you personally is challenging. Every person views clothing and style from their own viewpoint, therefore making fashion relatable and understandable to a large audience is not an easy task. Not to mention putting something so visual, or aesthetic, into words is a challenge in its own. An individual can learn about effective writing, relating to people of all types, and proper communication skills through fashion magazines, which is only one reason why they should read them.
My second reason why I recommend reading magazines like Vogue or Marie Claire is because they are filled with great knowledge. Each month, a new person graces the cover of each magazine. Not all, but most of these individuals are great role models. They are the some of the most successful people on the planet, who can be a better teacher and guide than that? In addition, fashion magazines now include health articles, current events, financial advice, and many more beneficial pieces of information. Not only does a women keep up on fashion trends, but also worldly and womanly trends.
Next time you are searching for new literature, or need a new nightly read to place on your bedside table, invest in an inexpensive, but enriching fashion magazine; Always stylish, always current, a read that will make you a better woman.

"She Was a Flapper"

I was not looking forward to my ninetieth birthday this past fall, another year older, meaning another year closer to wrinkles, less energy, and a less interesting life, or so I thought. Around the same time, I was researching the 1920’s and flappers for a school project. While researching, I came across descriptions such as,
"She was giddy and took risks. She was a flapper." (Jennifer Rosenberg)
"Lovely, expensive, and about nineteen." (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
These two statements got me thinking, I am about to be nineteen, why not embrace the flapper philosophy and lifestyle? Soon after, I turned nineteen, and my eighteen year old attitude was beginning to diminish. Embracing this lifestyle, has meant trying to not take life too seriously, being adventurous, and taking more fashion risks. What a person can learn from flappers is to not only include art deco elements, fringe, and pearls into one’s wardrobe, but also to live a life of risks, independent thinking, and high energy.

Guilty Pleasures

Sarah Ashley Longshore's painting fascinate me; Her subjects, use of color, and lively energy continuously draw me to her work. It also seems that we share guilty pleasures- shoes, handbags, sweets, and a love of anything Audrey Hepburn.

Juxtaposing

What do you get when you juxtapose teenage rebellion and the beautiful, classic harmonies of Frank Sinatra's love songs? Well you get the latest ad campaign from PacSun. This ad campaign is genius in my opinion because its captivating and innovative. Unlike the typical commercial targeting young adults in which sex, glamour, and materialism is overstressed, this ad utilizes classics in a forward thinking way. After watching the advertisement, not only do I want to buy their clothes, but I want to live the lifestyle that it portraits- rebellious, carefree, and filled with crazy adventures.

What's New?

It is with excitement that I state, yes, I have made a new and improved blog! After thinking about my previous blog, fashion kisses, I realized I needed something a bit more mature. I want to create something that I am proud of and enthused to work on. And with the suggestion of a friend, Fashion Matter(n)s was created. While checking in with fashion mattern(n)s in the future, you will notice changes in both design and content. I hoping to publish a few posts a week, so keep checking it to see what's new. Feel free to email me at fashionmatterns@gmail.com
